A New Year for Mid States

Happy New Year friends of Mid States!

CuriousGeorgeHead

We hope that the holiday season was enjoyable and that time was well spent with family and friends.

As the holiday season wound down and the New Year rolled around, we at Mid States began making preparations for the upcoming 2015 season.  This year will mark the 3rd year of Mid States horse shows for us.  These past two years have been very exciting.  We have strived to continue to offer the friendly atmosphere and sense of community that have always been part of the horse shows, while simultaneously working to improve the competition’s caliber.  We believe that horse showing should be fun, and part of that fun includes showing at a quality competition.

As part of our continued effort to improve the quality of the Mid States Horse Shows, we intend to do the following…

A CHANGE OF DATES

2015ShowDatesBusCard

We at Mid States have decided it to be in the best interest of everyone to restore the Spring show to its original date!

THE SPRING SHOW WILL TAKE PLACE
APRIL 29 – MAY 3, 2015

We hope this change will strengthen all of the Mid States shows!

A SPONSOR JUMP OPPORTUNITY

Pegasus Standards

The obstacles in our rings need a facelift!

We at Mid States plan to accomplish this by adding new jumps and by breathing new life into our existing ones.

To help expedite this process we are extending a Sponsor Jump Opportunity.

This is a great chance to have one’s farm or business promoted every day of our competitions with a jump in the Grand Prix ring.  The options would range from a fully customized obstacle ($3,500-$5,000) to a simple ad or banner on an existing obstacle ($500).  This is an excellent opportunity to provide lots of exposure for your farm or business during our four weeks of shows.

We are very much looking forward to the 2015 season and seeing you all in Mason Smiley!

3 weeks down. 1 to go!

The Mid States Spring and Summer shows have come to a close!  All in all, it was a fantastic 3 weeks filled with mostly sunshine and great competition.

The new 3 week circuit was closed out by the Mid States Summer Show which boasted the largest number of participants for the 3 week series.  Check out some photos from the week!

Highlighting the show were the weekend main events!  On Friday, everyone gathered at the Grand Prix ring to watch the $5,000 UEE Poise and Brilliance Hunter Classic!  I believe 20 competitors were on hand to tackle the course set by Rian Beals of Saugerties, NY.  This class is analogous to the Power and Speed classes one finds in the jumper ring, and is always a good time.  For this event the competitors were able to choose the fence height at which they want to compete.  So, we saw horse and rider combinations at 2’6″, 3′, 3’3″, 3’6″, and 3’9″.  In the end it was Kim Barone aboard “Indigo Girl” that topped the field of competitors.

CONGRATULATIONS KIM!!!

The next day was Grand Prix day.  The fairgrounds was overshadowed that day by consistent cloud cover and threats of rain.  A little after midday a huge storm rolled through just soaking everything in it’s path.  Luckily we were able to seal up the Grand Prix ring before the torrential downpour so that we could try to save the footing for the Grand Prix.  Everything looked like it had gone according to plan and Mr. Rian Beals set to work with the crew to build the Summer Grand Prix course.  Just as the course was open for walking it began sprinkling again.  Unfortunately it didn’t stop there and anyone who competed in the first round of the Prix ended up soaking wet.  However, the horses still jumped well and once you are on course you tend to forget that it is pouring rain!  At the completion of the first round there were 3 to return for the jump off.  Dannee Risler aboard her own “Kryptonite”,  Janine Weatherby and “Panache”, and Andy Kocher and “Quaprice de Beaumont”.  Ms. Risler and “Kryptonite” came back first and posted a clear round in the Jump Off.  This proved to be enough as Janine and Andy came back both having a knockdown.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DANNEE RISLER AND KRYPTONITE WINNERS OF THE $15,000 MID STATES SUMMER GRAND PRIX!!

Dannee Risler and "Kryptonite" assisted by Tom Urban and Patrice Urban are the winners of the $15,000 Mid States Summer Grand Prix

The sunshine returned to the fairgrounds for the final day of competition.  The feeling of the day was bittersweet.  It was the end of an excellent three weeks and although most people were excited to head home, there is always a somber feeling attached to seeing everyone finish up their showing, pack their trailers, and hit the road.

We, the Mid States staff, had an excellent time this year hosting these shows and we hope that everyone who was in attendance had a wonderful time.  A huge THANK YOU is in order to everyone who came to Mason City to support these shows!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

We hope to see everyone in the Fall (September 10-14. 2014) for the final segment of the 2014 Mid States Horse Shows.

Everyone please take care until we meet again in “Mason Smiley”!

Summerfest Success!

Well, it was another wonderful week of horse showing here at Mid States Horse Shows!

ShowGroundsPano

Miraculously the weather cooperated with us again and we were afforded a nice dry show week!

Highlights of the week include our $5000 USHJA National Hunter Derby that was held on Friday evening  alongside some appetizers and beverages that were served to the exhibitors.  There were about 20 entries on hand to pilot the derby course designed by Charles Throckmorton.

In the end Kim Barone and “Cyril” topped the field with their first place finish!
CONGRATULATIONS KIM!!

The action continued on Saturday as we drew closer to the Mid States Summerfest Grand Prix.  It was a bit of an overcast day, but the rain held off and gave us a lovely evening.  The highlight obstacle was the water/puissance wall option.

Three entries posted clear scores in the first round of Charles Throckmorton’s Grand Prix track and returned for the Jump Off.  Emily Pope and “Seize the Moment” were the first to return for the fast track.  The pair laid down a smooth and clean effort putting the pressure on Kim Barone and Dr. Kathy Ott.  Kim was next to return aboard her own “Rival”.  The pair were clean and quick, jumping into 1st place by several seconds.  Kathy Ott and “Mystic Sign” were the last team to challenge Kim’s leading time, and although they were quick it came along with 4 jumping faults.  Thus Kim Barone and “Rival” claim the top stop once again at Mid States Horse Shows!
CONGRATULATIONS KIM!!

The showing continues this coming Wednesday as week kick off week 3 of our show series!  Come join us at the North Iowa Events Center for Mid States Horse Shows Summer Show!

Highlights of the week will be the UEE Poise and Brilliance Hunter Classic on Friday and the Mid States Summer Grand Prix scheduled for Saturday.

We hope to see you there!

A Spring Show Summary

i Jun 6th No Comments by

The 2014 Mid States Spring Show was, well…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

…beautiful.

In fact, it was the antithesis of the 2013 Spring Show.  The sunshine was appreciated immensely more than the blizzard conditions of the previous year.  The good weather stuck around for the whole week, which made for ideal horse showing conditions.  Moving the show to a few weeks later in May proved to be the correct decision in terms of the weather!  We will be hoping for similar results next year!

Derby Pros20140527_120812CuriousGeorgeHead

On a gorgeous Friday evening we held a $2500 USHJA National Hunter Derby alongside our Spring Show exhibitors party.  Kerry Kocher designed a nice long and smooth track for the competitors to navigate.  It was a very flowing and open track that gave the horse and rider combinations lots of room to have a great canter.  Meanwhile the rest of the exhibitors were enjoying items fresh off the grill.  Burgers, chicken, potato salad, and cold beverages made for a great dinner during the class!

In the end it was Dan Urban aboard “Cousteaux” that topped the field and came away with the win.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Immediately following the Derby we had a special OPEN WATER CLINIC!!  The Mid States crew brought something new to the table this year by installing an Open Water fence in the GP ring.  We wanted everyone to have a fair chance at the jump for the Grand Prix, so Jim Urban gave a FREE open water clinic.

The competition continued on Saturday with our regular schedule, an culminated with the Mid States Spring Shows 2014 Variable Grand Prix.  The class began at about 3:45PM after carefully monitoring the weather situation with a total of 10 competitors slated to tackle the course set by Mr. Kerry Kocher.  Kim Barone and “Rival” were the first to post a clear score.  Not long after she was joined by her husband Andy Barone.  In the end Kim conceded the win to Andy by electing to withdraw from the Jump Off.
CONGRATULATIONS ANDY!!!

All in all it was a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable week of horse showing!  We came to an early end on Sunday afternoon, and everyone had a great chance to relax before competition would pick back up the next week for the Mid States Horse Shows Summerfest Show!!

Perfect Show Day topped with a Surprise!

i May 29th No Comments by

May 29, 2014

You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day to be out and about riding horses.

PerfectDaySunsetSpring2014

The day kicked off at 9am with the Performance Hunter Under Saddles in the Main Hunter ring, the 1.20m Jumpers in the Grand Prix ring, and the sunshine was pouring down.  There really aren’t any better horse show conditions.

The show moved along at and a consistent but casual pace, and all the rings finished in the early afternoon.  A perfect chance to go out and enjoy the beautiful day.

With the early finish we were able to add a little something special to the shows this year.  Something new and blue has made it’s way into the Grand Prix ring.  I believe for the first time ever, Mid States has an open water jump!

OpenWaterMSHS2014

There will plenty of opportunities for the horses to get used to the new addition.  We will drag that GP ring early and allow people to work in the jumper ring all the way up to the 9am start.  Also look for an opportunity to get into the ring later on in the afternoon!

Stay tuned for the derby start time tomorrow!!

Beautiful First Day

It was a gorgeous day here at the Mid States Spring Show!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Exhibitors woke up this morning to a bit of a muggy overcast morning.  The kind of morning that matched perfectly with the laid back start time of 9:00AM.  When the start time did roll around, the show got started off smoothly.  Exhibitors rolled through the Performance Hunters in the Main Hunter Ring as the 1.15m jumpers got underway in the Grand Prix ring.

As the show continued the sun began sneaking through the clouds here and there, and somewhere around midday the skies cleared and the sunshine poured down.  The temperature was great for riding as we finished up the schedule in the Main Hunter and GP ring, and got underway with the schedule in the “Sand Ring”.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The day concluded relatively early and everyone enjoyed the warm temperatures and beautiful sunshine.  Tomorrow is supposed to be another glorious day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We’ll see everyone tomorrow for another 9:00AM start time.
